My hometown is Sacramento and I came to HSU in 2015 and I am majoring in Criminology and Justice Studies. I am in my 3rd year and have been a Retention Through Academic Mentoring (RAMP) mentor and an EOP Peer Advisor. When I first came to HSU, I was nervous but everyone at EOP during Summer Bridge and afterwards made me feel welcome and supported. My advisor (Rama Rawal) has encouraged me to take opportunities that were out of my comfort zone and they have opened so many doors for me. After graduating from HSU, I want to attend the McGeorge School of Law and I plan to concentrate my legal studies on immigration law.
One of my biggest accomplishments has been being able to balance my academics, work, and social life all together. It’s definitely tough. I have to constantly remind myself that one day all the late nights will be worth it. I have been constantly trying to improve my time management and through a lot of studying and a steady schedule, I have recently received the Presidential Scholar award (3.85+ GPA).
For those future EOP students, make sure to take advantage of all the resources that EOP offers. Meet with your advisors and peer advisors. They are here to support you and answer any questions you have. Take opportunities even though they are out of your comfort zone! Sometimes those are the best opportunities.
