Nadir’s Message:
When I think of EOP, I experience a great sense of joy and pride. EOP is such an important program that allows successful transitions of underrepresented students like me. I think of the public servants like Joyce Chung, Deserie Myers and Andre Bailey that fought day in and day out to ensure that I had all the emotional, financial and academic resources to thrive at Sonoma State.
I was the first one to graduate from college in my family. The encouragement that I received from the Sonoma State EOP community propelled me to be student body president, CSSA President, and earn a double master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School of Government and MIT Sloan School of Management among other things.
EOP was my infrastructure in college. EOP was the place where I went to be with students that understood where I was in life and frankly, looked like me. Because belonging is such an important role in my college success, I mentor and coach several underrepresented people at work and in the community.
To future EOP students, I offer this: Enjoy this chapter of college, it’s an immense privilege to be where you are, so find ways to grow and challenge yourself. And be kind to yourself and others. We’re all we got.
