A Statement from the EOP Directors

The 50 year anniversary of the California State University’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) marks a time for celebration, reflection, and visioning.

We celebrate the increased diversity of our campuses and the advancement of our many EOP student graduates, who through their educational achievements, continue to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

We reflect upon the great inequities that continues to permeate throughout society. While we see greater diversity within our campuses, the achievement gap still exists among underrepresented students, which is reflected in the disparity in high school and CSU graduation rates.

We recognize how the income divide continues to affect historically low-income populations we serve, affecting their access to quality K-12 public education, higher education, economic opportunities and resources.  We examine how this income divide perpetuates the persistent intersection between race and socioeconomic status, replicating the historical inequalities in our State.

In the spirit of the mission of the California State University, and the legislation that established the Educational Opportunity Program 50 years ago, EOP continues to re-envision how best to maintain and broaden access to education for our historically underserved and disadvantaged students, by developing innovative practices to improve educational achievement for all California residents.  We invite you to join us at our EOP 50th Statewide Conference as we come together to change lives through continuous innovation.

Sincerely,

The California State University EOP Directors
