EOP Trailblazer, David Sandoval
David Sandoval was the former Director of the Cal State L.A. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) from 1981-2008. An EOP graduate, Sandoval entered the program in 1969 as a special admit student.
During the 1960’s, he was a student and community activist. He was a part of UMAS, MECHA, and Brown Berets. He combined his media talents with his concern for the community by writing and producing short video and film documentaries.
In 1969, David partnered with other directors, staff, faculty, students and communities to build, sustain and protect the EOP. This partnership continues today as well.
His work has allowed students and parents to be accepted into higher education, which for most, is a dream. He also witnessed these students graduate and the celebrations held for them among families and communities.
David hopes to continue building upon the foundation EOP students, directors, faculty, and community laid. He believes that the future of the EOP is about availability, support and opportunity for those who are still underserved and underrepresented today.
